WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works (EPW), today issued the following statement on President Biden's American Jobs Plan:

"The American Jobs Plan is a bold, transformative infrastructure proposal to revitalize our economy and clean up our nation's largest emitters of climate pollution--the transportation and power sectors. Its goal is to put our country on a path towards net-zero emissions by 2050, get Americans back to work, and create a better future for people across our nation.

"I'm glad to see that so many components in the American Jobs Plan touch on work that the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, which I am privileged to chair, is already undertaking to improve our water and surface transportation infrastructure. This includes investments in building more climate-resilient infrastructure, drinking water and wastewater, charging infrastructure for hundreds of thousands of electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles, safety measures for pedestrians and bicyclists, removing barriers that have divided communities, and cleaning up our ports and dirty diesel engines.

"I'm proud that my friend and fellow Delawarean is seeking to make a robust investment in our nation. Joe has spent his career betting on the American worker and this plan is no different. As Committee Chairman, I'll continue to help lead the effort in Congress to advance bipartisan legislation that is needed to help our communities, our economy, and our planet."
