Sasse Statement on the Green New Deal

Statement

Date: April 20, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator Ben Sasse, a member of the Senate Finance Committee, issued the following statement on the Green New Deal that was introduced by Senator Ed Markey and Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. The bill would exponentially expand government control in the manufacturing and agriculture sectors and dramatically increase deficit spending.

"The Green New Deal 2.0 is just another progressive wish list that's dead on arrival here in the Senate. The Green New Deal isn't about stewarding our environment, it's about remaking American life by making government more powerful. It's too big, too expensive, and out of touch with reality. Nebraska's farmers and ranchers know better than anyone how to care for our land and water -- we don't need New York and California progressives to remake America."
