Congressman Krishnamoorthi Applauds The Passage Of Senate Amendment To H.R. 1868 To Support Healthcare Providers

Today, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi voted in support of the Senate Amendment to H.R. 1868, which would suspend Medicare sequestration, which reduces Medicare payments by a maximum of 2% annually, through the end of the year. In practice, this will avert $12.3 billion in Medicare cuts for providers.

"Our healthcare heroes have been at the frontlines of this pandemic, and it's our duty to provide whatever support we can to them," Congressman Krishnamoorthi said. "Unfortunately, our hospitals are still full of COVID-19 patients and our healthcare providers are financially strained. I'm proud to delay these Medicare cuts so that we don't punish our physicians as they continue to work for us and rely on Medicare payments."

Medicare sequestration, the reduction of Medicare payments by a maximum of 2% annually, is required under the 2011 Budget Control Act. Congressman Krishnamoorthi has also previously voted to delay Medicare sequestration in the CARES Act and in the year-end COVID-19 relief and omnibus spending package in December 2020.
