Press Release

Date: April 16, 2021
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Veterans

Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi announced today that many Illinoisans who receive veterans' benefits could expect Economic Impact Payments of up to $1,400 to hit their bank accounts beginning this week. Many Illinoisans have already received Economic Impact Payments as part of the American Rescue Plan that Congressman Krishnamoorthi helped pass.

"The same veterans who selflessly put their lives on the line to protect our country now deserve help to meet the challenges of this pandemic," said Congressman Krishnamoorthi. "I hope that these stimulus checks act as a financial cushion for veterans who may be struggling. Along with the stimulus checks, veterans all over Illinois will benefit from healthcare, debt forgiveness, business loans, and so much more from this package. I am proud to have helped pass the American Rescue Plan to provide the support these heroes deserve."

This latest round of payments applies specifically to veterans and their beneficiaries already receiving Compensation and Pension (C&P) benefit payments and who don't generally file tax returns. As with other stimulus payments, funds to veterans will be automatically deposited into the recipients' bank accounts or loaded onto the Direct Express cards. While these payments should be made automatically, recipients can use the "Get My Payment" tool from IRS.gov to check the status of their payments and make sure they receive the money they are owed.
