Today, Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18) announced the Hudson Valley has received over $200,000 in Head Start grants for Orange County. This investment will help our Orange County Head Start programs fund their education and development services for children from low-income and underserved communities.

"The achievement gap in this country is growing by the day as schools continue to balance remote and hybrid in-person learning plans in the age of COVID-19. As we continue our recovery from this pandemic, it is more important than ever that kids in low income and underserved communities have every opportunity to succeed in school. That begins with Head Start," said Rep. Maloney. "These funds will help ensure that Orange County's youngest students have the building blocks they need to thrive."

"This grant is crucial to Head Start families throughout Eastern Orange County," said Ann Pagliaro, Executive Director of Head Start of Eastern Orange County. "The funding will allow us to continue bridging the learning gap from day one--a gap that disproportionately affects low-income children and has only widened since the beginning of the pandemic. We thank Congressman Maloney for his support of the Federal Head Start program, and we look forward to continuing our mission of providing high-quality early childhood education services to families in need."

"This funding will enable us to continue our critical work of addressing the needs of families with low income by providing their children with the resources to attain skills, gain knowledge, and feel prepared as they matriculate into kindergarten," said Charles Quinn, Chief Executive Officer of Regional Economic Community Action Program, Inc. "RECAP believes education is a pathway out of poverty. On behalf of the Board, staff and students of RECAP, we thank Congressman Maloney for his continued support."

This federal investment builds upon previous awards that Rep. Maloney secured for Head Start programs in Orange County. Since joining Congress, Rep. Maloney has announced over $8.7 million for Head Start programs in Orange County. Together, these awards will continue to provide families across the Hudson Valley with the resources needed to provide education and development services for children and families.

Head Start and Early Head Start programs provide comprehensive child development programs for children from birth to age five, pregnant women, and families. The programs focus on preparing children for school.
