Scalise, HEAT Co-Chairs Denounce Reintroduction of Radical "Green New Deal"

Press Release

House Energy Action Team co-chairs Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-S.C.) and Rep. Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.) joined House Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) today to blast Democrats for reintroducing their radical "Green New Deal":

"Radical leftists once again reintroduced their job-killing "Green New Deal' to advance Speaker Pelosi's socialist agenda," said Whip Scalise. "This plan by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez would force household electricity rates to skyrocket on low-income families, destroy millions of energy jobs for hard-working Americans, and increase global carbon emissions by shipping jobs to countries like China which don't have as strong environmental standards as we have. The Democrats' "Green New Deal' would ship millions of good-paying American jobs from energy-producing states like Louisiana to our nation's adversaries like China, Russia, and Iran, which will lead to higher carbon emissions. Instead of attempting to end American oil and natural gas production, we need to prioritize an all-of-the-above energy strategy that has propelled America to be energy dominant and allowed our economy to thrive, all while reducing American carbon emissions."

"By reintroducing the "Green New Deal', Congressional Democrats are following President Biden's lead in prioritizing the agenda of the radical environmental left over the livelihood of hardworking Americans," said Rep. Duncan. "Their illogical proposal would push energy prices through the roof, offshoring jobs and industries to countries like China who have negligible environmental standards. This will lead to increased global carbon emissions, while simultaneously undercutting our national security and global competitiveness. Instead of completely undermining energy production here in the United States, we need to pursue policies that promote innovation and support an all-of-the-above energy approach to keep energy affordable and reliable."

"The Green New Deal is not about combatting climate change, it's about a complete government takeover of our economy," said Rep. Mullin. "This dangerous package would not only kill hundreds of thousands of jobs, but also force Americans to foot the bill for reckless, expensive, and unattainable goals. Eliminating fossil fuels, like the Green New Deal aims to do, would cause energy prices to sky-rocket and force us to rely on our adversaries for our energy. This isn't a "deal,' it's a pipe dream."
