Senators Collins, King Announce More Than $1.9 Million for Maine Veterans' Homes

U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King announced that a total of $1,975,008 in emergency payments have been awarded to Maine Veterans' Homes locations to help respond to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. This funding was provided through provisions of the Fiscal Year 2021 Department of Veterans Affairs appropriations bill that was signed into law last December. The law allowed VA to use up to $100 million of unobligated funding appropriated under the CARES Act to make one-time emergency payments to state veterans homes.

"Maine Veterans' Homes provides veterans throughout our state with the compassionate care and support they have earned through their service to our country," said Senators Collins and King in a joint statement. "We welcome this important investment, which will help to ensure Maine's veterans continue to receive quality health care as we combat this public health and economic crisis."

Maine Veterans' Homes received the funding as follows:

· Augusta received $414,579

· Bangor received $426,095

· Caribou received $207,289

· Machias received $86,371

· Scarborough received $523,982

· South Paris received $316,692

Maine Veterans' Homes was established by the Maine Legislature in 1977 to provide long-term care services to Maine's veterans and eligible family members. It continues to operate as an independent, nonprofit organization.
