Statement

Date: April 8, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

NC-11 Congressional Representative Madison Cawthorn, along with original cosponsors, Rep. Jim Banks, Rep. Tracey Mann, Rep. Claudia Tenney, and Rep. Barry Moore dropped the the Veterans Fellowship Act on the House floor today.

This bill authorizes a pilot program to allow states to use grants or contracts to carry out a short-term fellowship program for unemployed veterans.

Rep. Cawthorn issued the following statement on the legislation, "I am proud to introduce this bill that prioritizes our veterans and opens up new and unique pathways towards employment. This new fellowship program will build upon the success of other fellowship programs across the country and I am confident that it will empower unemployed veterans to find meaningful work in the post-COVID economy. The benefits of this legislation are numerous, it will give eligible veterans the ability to gain on-the-job experience, in a field of their interest, while earning a monthly stipend. I will always fight for the veteran community in NC-11, and this bill is a bipartisan measure that puts veterans first."

Congressman Barry Moore joined Rep. Cawthorn stating, "Now more than ever, we have a responsibility to equip our heroes with the tools they need to adapt their skills to civilian life. I'm proud to support legislation to help our veterans succeed in new employment opportunities."

Congressman Tracey Mann affirmed the importance of this legislation, stating, "Veterans are our Nation's heroes and we need to ensure the transition to civilian life is seamless. I am excited to support Rep. Cawthorn's legislation that provides educational and vocational opportunities for our veterans."

Congresswoman Claudia Tenney joined her colleagues stating, "Too many veterans struggle to transition into the civilian workforce, which is why Congress must do more to tackle this issue head on. This bill will connect veterans with non-profits around the country to focus on growing their professional experience and expertise in the workplace. America's veterans served selflessly and put it all on the line for our great Nation, and we have to have their backs once they leave activity-duty service. I'm honored to join Congressman Cawthorn to support this legislation."
