Today, Rep. Mark Takano (D-Calif.) released this statement following President Biden's announcement that he plans to withdraw all remaining troops from Afghanistan by September 11, 2021.

"I strongly support President Biden's decision to withdraw all of our troops from Afghanistan by September 11, 2021. In the nearly 20 years that we've been at war with Afghanistan, America has spent trillions of dollars, and the cost to families who have lost a loved one has been unimaginable. There are soldiers fighting this war today who were not even alive when this conflict began.

"It's time to end America's longest war and to bring our troops home. We must ensure that we remain committed to peace and security in the region, and to human rights, and work closely with our allies on an orderly transition. I commend President Biden's diligence and thank him for his leadership in making this happen."
