Rep. Chip Roy (TX-21) issued the following statement Wednesday in response to news of President Biden's intention to withdraw all American forces from Afghanistan:

I welcome President Biden's announcement that he will continue President Trump's efforts to bring our troops home from Afghanistan, where they have been operating under an outdated Authorization of the Use of Military Force (AUMF) for almost 20 years now. It is long past time for Congress to live up to its Constitutional duty to speak clearly and hold earnest debate on the presence of our servicemen and women abroad. I wish President Biden had a clear and compelling plan to confront and destroy the terrorists who wish to kill us, rather than seemingly choosing the date of 9/11 for messaging purposes. We should defend America without fail, but do so in line with the wisdom of our Constitution and the will of the American people.
