Quigley Statement on President Biden's Gun Violence Prevention Executive Orders

Statement

Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05) released the following statement on President Joe Biden's executive orders to address gun violence:

"Our country has become all too familiar with loss. For years, we have watched as the headlines have been flooded with the news of mass shootings in our schools, our movie theaters, and in our streets. Enough is enough. I am incredibly proud that President Biden has taken much-needed executive action on gun violence. This is the first step our country needs to move forward and end unnecessary deaths. But it can't stop here. The Senate must step up, stand up for what is right, and pass the common sense gun legislation my colleagues in the House have put forward. Together, we can build a safer tomorrow for all of America."

Biden's executive orders tighten restrictions on so-called ghost guns, untraceable weapons that can be constructed from parts purchased online, and stabilizing braces for pistols, like the one used in the recent shooting in Boulder, CO, and direct five federal agencies to make changes to 26 different programs to direct vital support to community violence intervention programs as quickly as possible.
