Congressman Sires released the following statement following the vehicle-related incident at the Capitol:

"It is with deep sadness that I learn of the death of U.S. Capitol Police Officer William F. Evans, and the hospitalization of another USCP officer, following the attack at Capitol complex barricades earlier this afternoon. Capitol Police officers are asked to put their lives on the line every day to protect the Capitol complex and the people who work there, and these law enforcement officers deserve our profound respect and gratitude. I will continue to monitor the situation while the investigation into today's events unfolds.

I offer my deepest condolences to Officer Evans' loved ones, and pray they are comforted in this difficult time."
