Rep. Katko Announces Over $5 Million in Pandemic Relief Funds for Syracuse Hancock International Airport

Press Release

U.S. Rep. John Katko (NY-24) today announced Syracuse Hancock International Airport has received over $5 million in federal pandemic relief funds.

These funds are available through the Coronavirus Response and Relief Appropriations (CRRSA) Act, a bipartisan, bicameral pandemic relief bill Rep. Katko supported in the House. Along with his colleagues in the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus, Rep. Katko also helped re-ignite negotiations on this package and crafted a compromise framework that formed the basis for the final bill signed into law. The $5 million in new funds will provide economic relief for costs related to airport operations, personnel, cleaning, sanitization, janitorial services, debt service payments, and combating the spread of pathogens at the airport. It will also provide economic relief from rent and minimum annual guarantees to on-airport car rental, on-airport parking, and in-terminal concessions.

"This past year I've been proud to help deliver millions of dollars in pandemic aid for the Syracuse Hancock International Airport and today I'm pleased to announce the Airport will receive over $5 million in additional relief funds," said Rep. Katko. "Each year, the Syracuse Airport serves thousands of residents, visitors, and businesses in our region. But due to the pandemic, the Airport has had significantly less traffic and was forced to go to great lengths to keep travelers and staff safe. This funding will support the Airport's efforts to protect travelers and staff from COVID-19 and ensure it is able to continue operating as a hub for residents, tourists, and businesses. The funds will also be used to support in-terminal concessions and other local businesses who experienced hardship during this ongoing crisis."
