Congresswoman Tenney Votes to Restore $430B Cuts Made to Medicare in American Rescue Plan

Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-22) today released the following statement after supporting H.R. 1868, a bill that would restore $430 billion in Medicare cuts made in the Democrats' American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. Tenney opposed the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 in part because of the significant cuts it made to important programs like Social Security and Medicare.

"Tucked away in House Democrats $1.9 trillion spending bill earlier this month was a $430 billion cut to Medicare, which is one of the reasons I opposed that bill," said Congresswoman Claudia Tenney. "It is outrageous that House Democrats used a budget gimmick to slash Medicare funding and hide the true cost of their spending bill. This represents everything that's wrong with the budget process in Washington, and it's not the first time House Democrats have slashed Medicare spending. Obamacare cut Medicare by more than $716 billion.

"If the irresponsible mandatory cuts in the American Rescue Plan were to go into effect, New York could lose more than $27 billion in Medicare funding over ten years, which is why I ultimately supported H.R. 1868 to stop the cuts. I've always stood with Upstate seniors and will never stop fighting to preserve Social Security and Medicare. All Americans should be outraged by the inside-the-Beltway tactics being used by Speaker Pelosi and House Democrats. It's simply unconscionable that Congress would even consider mandatory cuts to a program like Medicare, which is so vitally important to our seniors."
