Rep. Cawthorn Drops Bill to Terminate Certain Executive Actions

Statement

Date: April 6, 2021
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Immigration

NC-11 Congressional Representative Madison Cawthorn issued the following statement regarding a new piece of legislation designed to revoke harmful policies enacted by the Biden Administration.

"The Biden Administration's Executive Actions have attracted an influx of migrants seeking to take advantage of irresponsible and poorly thought-out immigration policy. There is a crisis at the border, and it will continue to get worse until order is restored. This proposed Act revokes a series of executive actions that have contributed greatly to the current crisis at the border and our immigration problems at large."

This legislation would revoke EO 13986, which requires that all inhabitants of a state, regardless of immigration status, be included in Congressional apportionment counts. It would also revoke EO 13993, which rescinded President Trump's order to empower DHS to prioritize and execute the removal of aliens that have been convicted of criminal offenses, been charged with offenses, have abused public programs, have engaged in fraud, or that immigration officers deemed to pose a risk to public safety or national security. Finally, this act voids Presidential Proclamation 10142, which terminated President Trump's Emergency Declaration at the Southern Border and redirected the funds that had been allocated to border wall construction.

Rep. Cawthorn further stated that, "These executive actions, taken by the Biden Administration, function as a beacon welcoming everyone into the United States regardless of criminal history, academic merit, or willingness to abide by our laws. The Biden Administration is making a mockery of the rule of law and destroying our country, even as we are going through a worldwide pandemic. We cannot allow this to continue."
