U.S. Congresswoman Stephanie Murphy of Winter Park, Fla., today announced that she will host a virtual Tax Season Information Session on Monday, March 15, 2021 to provide guidance and answer questions from her constituents on their eligibility for new and existing tax credits and other economic support provided through the federal tax code. Legislation enacted by Congress, including the American Rescue Plan Act, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in many changes to the tax code. Murphy will explain these changes and connect her constituents with tax professionals. The tax information session will feature presentations from representatives of the Internal Revenue Service, the Taxpayer Advocate Service, and AARP. Murphy encourages constituents to submit questions in advance that they would like to have answered by members of the panel through her website at murphy.house.gov/TaxSeason.

"I've heard from many Central Floridians who are confused about recent changes in tax law that may affect them this filing season," said Murphy. "My office is holding this information session to ensure everyone in our community can get all their questions answered before filing their taxes, and to make sure Central Floridians are taking full advantage of the government assistance and tax credits that I've been fighting for since the start of the pandemic."

Murphy led a successful effort in Congress to enact the Employee Retention Tax Credit (ERTC), a pro-worker and pro-business provision that provides direct financial support to businesses that retain or rehire workers, rather than lay them off. She recently worked to extend this credit through the end of 2021 as part of the American Rescue Plan Act. It is estimated that this provision will enable businesses to retain or rehire 13 million workers.

The virtual session will take place on Monday, March 15, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. Residents of Florida's Seventh Congressional District may register by visiting murphy.house.gov/TaxSeason. The event will also be available as a livestream through Murphy's Facebook page.
