Bill Johnson Blasts SOCOM Hiring of Left-Wing Zealot

Statement

Congressman Bill Johnson (R-Marietta) released the following statement in response to the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) hiring a "chief of diversity and inclusion" officer who posted anti-Trump memes on his Facebook page, including one that compared the former president to Adolf Hitler, and shared posts equating police officers with slave catchers:

"I am shocked at the hiring of Richard Torres-Estrada as Chief of Diversity and Inclusion at one of America's functional combatant command headquarters. Comparing former President Trump, who was duly elected by the American people, to a genocidal madman directly responsible for killing six million Jewish men and women shows irredeemably poor judgement and the total inability to separate fact from fiction," Bill Johnson said. "Torres-Estrada has disqualified himself from serving at U.S. Special Operations Command - our military's tip of the spear. What Joe Biden and his administration are doing to our military is deeply dangerous and provocative. If the Biden Defense Department continues down the path of valuing diversity and inclusion over readiness and lethality, may God help the United States of America. Beijing and Moscow couldn't be happier by this action."

Johnson finished his 26-plus year career in the Air Force at MacDill Air Force Base in Florida as Director of the Air Force's Chief Information Officer Staff at U.S. Special Operations Command. While there, he worked directly with senior congressional and Secretary of Defense representatives, as well as top leaders within the various U.S. intelligence communities to ensure America's Special Operations forces were adequately equipped to carry out critical national security missions. When Johnson learned about the hire of left-wing zealot Torres-Estrada, he was infuriated.

Johnson added: "I have sent a letter to Secretary of Defense Austin requesting a detailed report on the qualifications, the statement of need for this position, who did the background check, how long was the background check, and asking if the background check discovered Mr. Torres-Estrada's extremist posts. I've also asked Secretary Austin if he agrees that any American President is comparable to Hitler, and whether the United States Constitution is similar to the late 1930s German counterpart that allowed Hitler to take over his country unilaterally. The entire decision-making process that culminated with the hiring of Mr. Torres-Estrada should be carefully reviewed."

"If the American people don't receive satisfactory answers, Mr. Torres-Estrada should be relieved of his duties immediately," Johnson concluded.
