Larson Votes for Legislation To End Gun Violence

Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) voted for H.R. 8, the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2021 and H.R. 1446 the Enhanced Background Checks Act of 2021. These pieces of legislation would require all firearms transfers and sales to undergo a background check. The Enhanced Background Checks of 2021 would close the "Charleston Loophole" that currently allows the sale of a firearm to proceed if a background check is not completed within three days.

Larson is a cosponsor of both proposals and is an outspoken leader in the anti-gun violence movement. In 2016, he co-led the sit in on the House Floor, demanding a vote on the Bipartisan Background Checks Act.

"Americans have waited too long for action on gun violence. For years Congressional Republicans have obstructed this common-sense gun reform bill that is supported by over 90 percent of Americans and over 90 percent of gun-owners," said Larson. "Tragically, we have lost too many Americans at the hands of gun violence as a result of inaction from my colleagues on the other side. We should honor those we have lost by passing this bipartisan legislation that will save countless of lives across the country each and every year."
