Bishop Praises Signing of American Rescue Plan Act

Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02), Chairman of the U.S. House Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies, released the following statement after President Joe Biden signed the American Rescue Plan Act, the latest coronavirus relief bill, into law:

"Today, help is on the way for Georgians. Between the economic aid and the comprehensive vaccination plan, the American Rescue Plan Act will help bring us through the coronavirus crisis much faster."

The American Rescue Plan Act will deliver billions of dollars of aid to Georgia including but not limited to:

Over 4.6 million households in Georgia will receive a $1400 stimulus check, adding onto the $600 down payment from December.
This is a total of nearly $12.4 billion in direct payments.
For the first time, adult dependents will also receive full $1,400 dependent checks.
The families of 1,042,000 Georgia children will now be eligible for additional relief of up to $3,000 per child ages 6 to 17 (and $3,600 for young children under the age of 6) through the expanded Child Tax Credit, lifting 171,000 children in Georgia out of poverty.
Georgia's elementary and secondary schools will receive $4.4 billion, and higher education will receive $1.2 billion to put students back in school safely.
Georgia will receive $1.595 billion, in various childcare grants and assistance to help parents return to work.
572,000 childless workers in Georgia, including many frontline workers, will now be eligible for additional relief through the strengthened Earned Income Tax Credit -- of which the maximum amount for workers without children is nearly tripled in this legislation from $530 to $1,500.
Over 250,000 Georgians will continue receiving unemployment benefits at $300 a week for a total of $81 million.
Georgia will receive $562 million in emergency rental assistance, as well as at least $50 million in mortgage assistance.
Rural transit in Georgia will receive $1.5 million.
State and local governments in Georgia will receive $8.4 billion to help support vital public services, police officers, firefighters, first responders, hospitals, and small businesses.
55 cities in GA-02 will receive federal awards from the American Rescue Plan.
This totals $155 million for cities in the district.
The average award per city is $2.8 million.
11 townships in GA-02 will receive $880,000.
The average award per township is $80,000.
The 29 counties in GA-02 will receive nearly $147 million.
The average award per county is $5 million.
