Duckworth Votes to Confirm Becerra as HHS Secretary

U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) released the following statement after voting to confirm Xaiver Becerra as Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary. Becerra was confirmed by a 50-49 vote to serve as HHS Secretary under President Biden.

"More than 530,000 Americans have died from COVID-19. It's clear we need a Health and Human Services department that is laser-focused on getting this pandemic under control and quickly administering the vaccine in an equitable way to as many people as possible. Xaiver Becerra led the fight to protect the Affordable Care Act in the courts, and he is committed to protecting underserved communities and expanding access to quality, affordable healthcare. Secretary Becerra will bring this experience with him to the department he will now lead. I look forward to working with him to fight this pandemic and to protect and expand every American's access to healthcare."
