Hagedorn Opposes Democrat Efforts to Grant Amnesty to Illegal Immigrants

Press Release

Date: March 18, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Jim Hagedorn (MN-01) tonight voted against two bills offered by House Democrats that would grant permanent amnesty to more than three million illegal aliens.

Rep. Hagedorn issued the following statement at the conclusion of the votes:

"Since taking office, President Biden has systematically undermined and reversed the strong and effective border security policies of the Trump Administration by halting construction of the border wall, refusing to enforce longstanding immigration laws, ending deportations, canceling agreements with Mexico and other nations that closed the asylum loophole, and reinstating the Obama Administration's policy of "catch and release,' which transports illegal aliens deep within America's interior.

"The result of President Biden's failed liberal leadership is chaos and a humanitarian crisis with more than 100,000 southwestern border encounters in February alone, COVID positive illegal immigrants being released into the U.S., and suspected terrorists taking advantage of overwhelmed border agents to enter our country.

"Even as they continue neglecting the crisis at the border -- risking Americans' health and security -- Democrats are now attempting to grant permanent residence and amnesty for those who have already entered the country illegally. It is no coincidence that this public health and national security crisis began as soon as Democrats returned to power.

"The Democrats' extremist open borders and amnesty policies are a slap-in-the-face to those who legally immigrated to America, as well as to taxpayers, job-seekers, and people who want safe communities. Instead of again bowing to their leftwing base, to end the crisis on our southern border, President Biden, Speaker Pelosi and congressional Democrats should reinstate the Trump border security plan that put America and Americans First."
