Hagedorn Opposes Democrats' "For the Politicians Act"

Press Release

Date: March 3, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Jim Hagedorn (MN-01) this evening voted against H.R. 1 -- a partisan effort from Democrats to orchestrate a federal takeover of elections and rig the system in their favor. The measure passed by a vote of 220-210.

Rep. Hagedorn issued the following statement upon the vote's conclusion:

"If this bill were more aptly named, it would be called the "For the Politicians Act.' This shady proposal from Speaker Pelosi bankrolls politicians with a 6-1 tax dollar match to run negative campaign ads, nationalizes elections, regulates free speech, nullifies commonsense voter ID laws, weaponizes the IRS, and funds members' reelection campaigns.

"This is just another example of Democrats viewing their majority as a vehicle to ram through a radical agenda that is antithetical to Americans' everyday needs. Democrats are using this bill as a tool to pressure states to make permanent the "pandemic-style' election changes that were imposed against the U.S. Constitution and without the consent of state legislatures. Many of these changes led to increased irregularities and decreased trust in our election system. It is truly frightening to see Speaker Pelosi and House Democrats treat the Constitution as just an obstacle to their efforts to seize as much power as possible."
