Congressman García's statement on Senate Confirmation of HUD Secretary Marcia Fudge

Statement

Date: March 10, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

Today the U.S. Senate confirmed Marcia Fudge as Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Congressman Jesús "Chuy" García (IL-04) issued the following statement:

"I congratulate my former colleague, Marcia Fudge, on her confirmation as Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Fudge's fierce advocacy for Latino, Black and, marginalized communities, as well as her experience as mayor of a working-class community make her uniquely suited to meet the challenges before the Department of Housing and Urban Development."

"Secretary Fudge faces the daunting but critical work of rebuilding and supporting communities that have been ravaged by decades of disinvestment and the Coronavirus pandemic. HUD must work fast to keep people in their homes, undo the Trump administration's backwards and racist housing policies, and tackle the enduring legacies of racism and segregation in our country's neighborhoods. Luckily, she is not alone: my colleagues and I on the Financial Services Committee look forward to partnering with the Secretary to root out inequity and build vibrant, affordable neighborhoods for all."
