Congressman Mo Brooks Defends 2nd Amendment Right to Bear Arms from Socialist Democrat Attacks

Thursday, Congressman Mo Brooks (AL-05) announced he will vote against Socialist Democrat bills that attack the Second Amendment Right to Bear Arms. H.R. 8 criminalizes private gun transfers without preapproval of the government. H.R. 1446 needlessly complicates, slows and delays the gun-purchase background check process.

Congressman Brooks' opposition to H.R. 8 and H.R. 1446 is joined by Gun Owners of America (GOA), National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the National Association for Gun Rights (NAGR), and the National Rifle Association (NRA),

Congressman Brooks said, "Joe Biden, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer rapidly seek to gut and neuter the Second Amendment Right to Bear Arms. Less than a month into his presidency, Joe Biden announced pursuit of universal background checks (which according to the Department of Justice cannot be accomplished without a national gun registry),[1] banning mislabeled "assault rifles' (outlawing millions of commonly owned firearms), banning "high capacity' magazines (making it illegal to own a magazine that holds over 10 rounds), and implementing so-called gun buy backs (a confiscation equivalency).[2] But, Biden and his Socialist Democrat allies won't stop there. These efforts are just the beginning of many efforts to disarm the American people to render them helpless against domestic and foreign threats."

Brooks continued, "At a 2019 Birmingham, Alabama campaign stop for his dead-on-arrival presidential run, Socialist Democrat and "Manchurian candidate' Congressman Eric Swalwell of California, who is frivolously suing me, President Trump, and Donald Trump Jr., said he supports gun ban and gun confiscation programs, adding that he would require that law enforcement risk their lives by forcibly taking firearms from American citizens who do not voluntarily relinquish them. Swalwell's position is held by nearly all Socialist Democrats in Congress. This is what pro-Second Amendment Americans are up against."

Brooks continued, "H.R. 8, requires that all firearms sales, with limited exceptions, undergo a background check before a transfer can be completed. It criminalizes a person lending a shotgun to a friend while shooting clay targets. It criminalizes selling a gun to a lifelong friend without dragging that person in front of a Federal Firearm Licensee for a background check. The goal of the Biden Administration and Socialist Democrats is to criminalize otherwise law abiding citizens who would engage in historically widely-accepted practices that are protected by the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution."

Brooks concluded, "I am a firm believer and supporter of Second Amendment rights. The Right to Keep and Bear Arms may have done more to keep America free and democratic than any other provision in our Bill of Rights. I will fight all Socialist efforts to weaken our 2nd Amendment Right to Bear Arms. To do otherwise is to support the tyranny America's Founding Fathers fought against. I take that stance for every American, for a free America, for the protection of my family, and for me, a proud gun owner."
