Pascrell Votes in Support of Dreamers

Press Release

Date: March 18, 2021
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Immigration

U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) today voted in favor of H.R. 6, the American Dream and Promise Act of 2021. This legislation offers a path to permanent legal status for millions of young undocumented immigrants, including Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients. The bill would provide protections for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) holders.

"For far too long America's Dreamers have suffered under a cloud of fear and uncertainty. Today House Democrats are saying: No more. Our legislation will protect these young Americans and keep families together," said Rep. Pascrell, a cosponsor of the DREAM Act and of its earlier iterations. "For years under Republican leadership, I demanded that the House be allowed to vote on this common-sense legislation. House Democrats approved a similar version of this bill in 2019, only to have it blocked by Senate Republicans. Today we are re-approving our legislation to safeguard the futures of America's Dreamers. I urge my Senate colleagues to move quickly on this bill. There can be no further delay."

Rep. Pascrell is one of Congress' most prominent voices in support of America's Dreamers. For years under Republican leadership, Rep. Pascrell demanded a vote on the DREAM Act. In May 2018, Pascrell signed a bipartisan discharge petition to force a vote to protect America's Dreamers. He also excoriated continued Republican inaction on the legislation and was a fierce opponent of Donald Trump's inhumane immigration policies.
