Pascrell Votes to Reauthorize Violence Against Women Act

U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) today voted to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), vital legislation that provides federal support for victims of domestic abuse, stalking, and sexual violence, and bolsters programs at shelters and social service agencies that support women in crisis.

"Twenty-seven years ago, Congress enacted the landmark Violence Against Women Act to combat the poison of domestic violence in America. I am proud to stand with my House colleagues today as we reauthorize this lifesaving legislation," said Rep. Pascrell, a cosponsor of the legislation. "We're leading this charge today because domestic violence remains a horrific stain on American life in too many communities across our nation. The federal government can and must support these victims in every way possible, and our legislation ensures federal aid will continue. Today and always I remain committed to ensuring that every person has the right to live free from abuse."

Rep. Pascrell and House Democrats voted to reauthorize VAWA in 2019, but the legislation was blocked from passage by Senate Republicans.
