New York City--In response to reports that the White House killed Diana Taylor's nomination to head the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-Brooklyn & Queens) released the following statement:

"It is simply insane that someone as qualified as Diana Taylor would be prevented from serving our nation by the most reactionary and zealous force in Washington--the NRA.

"If anyone still needed evidence that the Bush administration does the bidding of the gun lobby, then this is it."
