Sarbanes, Maryland Congressional Delegation Announce More Than $9.4 Million for HIV/AIDS Research and Prevention

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Congressman John Sarbanes (D-Md.) today joined the Maryland Congressional Delegation in announcing $9,461,685 in federal funding to strengthen HIV/AIDS surveillance and prevention programs across Maryland.

"The HIV/AIDS crisis continues to ravage communities in all corners of the country, including many communities that are disproportionately impacted by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic," the lawmakers said. "This new federal funding will invest in HIV/AIDS research, treatment and prevention programs to keep Marylanders safe and healthy. Our delegation remains committed to strengthening public health initiatives, expanding access to affordable health care and securing additional resources for medical research and prevention programs across our state."

Funding comes from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention National Center for HIV, Viral Hepatitis, STDs and TB Prevention. It includes:

$6,283,343 for the Maryland Department of Health
$3,178,342 for the Baltimore City Health Department

Last year, the lawmakers announced more than $2 million to support individuals living with HIV/AIDS in Maryland through the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program.
