Guthrie Statement on Third COVID-19 Vaccine Authorization

Statement

Date: Feb. 27, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02), Republican Leader of the Energy and Commerce Committee's Health Subcommittee, released the following statement after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued an emergency use authorization (EUA) for Johnson & Johnson's COVID-19 vaccine.

"With FDA's authorization of Johnson & Johnson's COVID-19 vaccine, we now have three safe COVID-19 vaccines that have been through a rigorous review process and exceeded FDA's requirements for effectiveness in protecting against the virus," said Guthrie. "Thanks to the efforts of Operation Warp Speed from development to distribution, the newly authorized vaccine will quickly provide millions of vaccines to send out to communities across the country. This will create more vaccination opportunities for Kentuckians, who have been so patient during this time of limited vaccine supply. Next week, more Kentuckians will have the opportunity to be vaccinated with the opening of Phase 1C vaccine eligibility. This terrible virus has taken more than half a million American lives, and we can all do our part to protect our family, friends, and community by receiving the vaccine."
