Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) released the following statement after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported more than 500,000 Americans have lost their lives to COVID-19.

"Family, friends, and fellow Kentuckians have been taken away from us too soon because of COVID-19," said Guthrie. "Now, we've crossed a terrible marker in this public health emergency with more than 500,000 American lives lost to this horrendous virus. While we mourn and honor each of these lives, we also have hope that we will soon defeat COVID-19. We have two safe vaccines being administered each day that are proven to work, and hopefully soon, another potential vaccine will be authorized to further ramp up vaccine efforts. Thankfully, in Kentucky we have seen COVID-19 cases decrease for six weeks in a row, and COVID-19 cases nationally in nursing homes are also declining. With more vaccine sites opening and vaccine eligibility expanding in Kentucky, I encourage everyone to get vaccinated when possible, so we can protect each other and stop COVID-19."
