Higgins Announces Over $22M for Flood Mitigation, Hurricane Recovery Efforts in LA-03

Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) announced today that FEMA will award $22.17 million for flood mitigation and Hurricane Laura recovery efforts in Calcasieu, Jeff Davis, and Vermilion parishes.
The grants include:
$2,941,068.39 for flood mitigation efforts in Calcasieu Parish. The hazard mitigation grant will be used to finance the elevation of nine structures and the acquisition of six structures.
$2,399,735.89 for flood mitigation efforts in Vermilion Parish. The hazard mitigation grant will be used to finance the elevation of 11 structures and the acquisition of two structures.
$10,156,500 to the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury for debris removal operation in response to Hurricane Laura. This is a cost-share adjustment to reflect increased federal support at a 90% reimbursement rate and will supplement $50,782,500 in previously announced funds.
$2,833,659 to the City of Sulphur for debris removal operations in response to Hurricane Laura. This is a cost-share adjustment to reflect increased federal support at a 90% reimbursement rate and will supplement $14,168,295 in previously announced funds.
$3,842,204.50 to Jeff Davis Electric Co-op for power restoration efforts in response to Hurricane Laura. This is a cost-share adjustment to reflect increased federal support at a 90% reimbursement rate and will supplement $19,211,022.52 in previously announced funds.
Congressman Higgins issued the following statement:
"We remain dedicated to Southwest Louisiana's recovery efforts. The federal cost-share adjustment, which we battled for, provides an increase in much-needed resources for our region. Additionally, we continue to push FEMA to provide faster delivery of temporary housing units. FEMA's own bureaucracy stands in the way of common-sense relief efforts, and that bureaucracy has notably thickened since the change in Executive administration. We will not stop working to provide federal support for the region's dire housing needs.
"Further, my office supports ongoing investments in flood mitigation across South Louisiana. These grants produce long-term cost savings and make our communities resilient. We will continue working with our local, state, and federal partners on both of these efforts."
