Dr. Bucshon Votes to Protect Hoosier's Second Amendment Rights

Press Release

Date: March 11, 2021
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Guns

Congressman Larry Bucshon, M.D. (IN-08) released the following statement after voting against two bills advanced by House Democrats -- the Bipartisan Background Checks Act (H.R. 8) and the Enhanced Background Checks Act (H.R. 1446) -- that undermine the Second Amendment Rights of Hoosiers:

"Our Founding Fathers were prescriptive and intentional when it came to the Bill of Rights, specifically enshrining certain freedoms by name -- including the Second Amendment's right to bear arms. However, Washington Democrats have been trying to limit the Constitutionally guaranteed freedom of Americans for decades by attempting to undermine the Second Amendment.

"Despite the rhetoric from Washington Democrats that these bills are somehow a magic wand that will end gun violence in our country, the reality is neither of these bills would actually solve the problem. Instead of working to enforce the laws already on the books or find common sense solutions that will actually make our communities safer, Washington Democrats have advanced these bills to appease their far-left progressive base. In fact, the changes made to background checks in these two pieces of legislation will not stop criminals from acquiring guns -- criminals do not follow the law. The only thing these bills will accomplish is making it harder for law-abiding citizens to legally purchase guns and exercise their Second Amendment rights."
