Rep. Williams Opposes Pelosi's Bills to Strip Second Amendment Rights

Statement

Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Roger Williams (R-TX-25) released the following statement after voting NO on H.R. 8, the Universal Background Checks Act and H.R. 1446, the Enhanced Background Checks Act.

"President Biden and Speaker Pelosi fulfilled their campaign promise to disarm America and restrict the gun rights of responsible, law-abiding citizens with H.R. 8 and H.R. 1446. These proposals would not stop criminals from possessing a gun and there is no credible evidence to prove these checks will reduce gun violence, firearm suicide, or homicide in the United States.

"The second amendment is enshrined in the U.S. Constitution, and it shall not be infringed upon. Penalizing a Texan with a year in prison and a $100,000 fine for lending a firearm to a neighbor for protection is outrageous and unjust. For gun control advocates who want to bring blue state gun laws to Texas, look no further than New York City. New York has some of the strictest gun laws in the country, but in 2020 had a 95% increase in shootings. I will continue to oppose this and any future Democratic efforts to disarm the American people."
