Today, Democratic Women's Caucus (DWC) Co-Chairs Congresswomen Jackie Speier (CA-14), Lois Frankel (FL-21), and Brenda Lawrence (MI-14), and Vice Chairs Congresswomen Veronica Escobar (TX-16) and Deb Haaland (NM-01) welcomed the final passage of H.R. 8, the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2021 and H.R. 1446, the Enhanced Background Checks Act of 2021, two commonsense pieces of legislation to prevent more victims of gun violence in America.

"Today, the House passed commonsense gun violence legislation that will help save women from being killed or injured by gun violence. It makes our nation a safer place for women dealing with intimate partner violence, students who have been targeted at school, and for all Americans. 85 percent of gun owners support universal background checks, recognizing that they are a commonsense and reasonable way to prevent gun violence in our communities. We urge the Senate to take up these two pieces of legislation and join us," the Members said.
