Scott Statement on Special Enrollment Period for Health Insurance Marketplaces

Statement

Date: Feb. 15, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

Education and Labor Committee Chairman Bobby Scott (VA-03) issued the following statement after the Biden-Harris Administration opened a three-month Special Enrollment Period for the Health Insurance Marketplaces:

"Last month, President Biden and Vice President Harris took a long overdue step to expand access to affordable health care during the COVID-19 pandemic by establishing a Special Enrollment Period for the Affordable Care Act's Marketplaces.

"Expanding access to health insurance plans through the Affordable Care Act is one of the best strategies we have to help people get covered during this global health emergency. Regrettably, the previous Administration refused to take this basic step to support uninsured and underinsured Americans, even as the number of COVID-19 cases grew rapidly.

"Now, as the virus continues to spread across the country, this Special Enrollment Period will provide millions of Americans and their families an opportunity to access the comprehensive health coverage they need to weather this pandemic.

"I encourage anyone who doesn't already have coverage to find and sign up for an affordable health insurance plan by visiting HealthCare.gov or calling 1-800-318-2596 from February 15, 2021 through May 15, 2021."
