Congressman Tim Ryan (D-OH), Chair of the House Appropriations Legislative Branch Subcommittee, released the following statement after being briefed today by U.S. Capitol Police Chief Pittman and the USCP intelligence team on the new Capitol security threat. Ryan was briefed on the new and concerning information and intelligence that USCP has received indicating additional interest in the Capitol for the dates of March 4th -- 6th by a militia group and the potential for protests and demonstration activity surrounding what some conspiracy theorists have described as the "true Inauguration Day."

"It is heartbreaking that the United States Capitol continues to be a target -- not by foreign adversaries -- but by our fellow Americans. I am thankful to Chief Pittman and the USCP intelligence team for briefing me, and I'm pleased they are taking the necessary steps to ensure the Capitol and its employees are safe and secure during the coming days. It is important to note that this cannot be our new normal -- we must look inward and root out these conspiracy theories and hate-filled ideologies wherever they lie. We are better than this."
