Kelly: 'Equality Act' Hurts Women and Threatens Religious Liberty

Statement

The U.S. House of Representatives today passed H.R. 5, the Equality Act, legislation that would add sexual orientation and gender identity as protected classes under the Civil Rights Act of 1964. U.S. Representative Mike Kelly (R-Pa.) voted against the bill and issued this statement:

"All people should be treated with respect and no one should face discrimination in their daily lives, but this extreme bill would erode our nation's progress toward women's equality and threaten religious liberty enshrined in the First Amendment. If enacted, it will have real world consequences such as biological men participating in women's athletics. It is shocking that Democrats think this is good for society and a political priority."
