Press Release

Date: Feb. 25, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (D-OH), released the following statement after she joined her colleagues in voting to pass H.R. 5, the Equality Act, in the House. The legislation now goes to the Senate.

"The Equality Act will ensure Americans who've historically been marginalized on the basis of gender, sexual orientation, and gender identity, including women and members of the LGBTQ community, are finally protected by our civil rights laws," said Rep. Kaptur. "Every American should be able to live free from harassment and discrimination. The passage of the Equality Act in the House reflects America's desire to protect those who have been denied basic rights and freedoms for too long. While our fight for full equality and protection does not end today, the Equality Act will bring us a major step forward. I urge the Senate to immediately take up and vote on this vital legislation without delay."
