On Tuesday, March 2, 2021, Congressman Al Green released the following statement following the increase in security funding for Members of Congress, called for in the resolution he and Congressman David Schweikert introduced in January:

"My prayers have been answered! In the wake of rising division in our nation that has resulted in the targeting of Members of Congress, I have had great concern for congressional staff and the public around Members, whose lives could easily become endangered if our safety and security are threatened. This is why I and my colleague Congressman Schweikert introduced the bipartisan H.Res. 56 on January 21, 2021, a resolution expressing the sense of the House of Representatives that the amount of the Members' Representational Allowance should be increased in response to increasing threats against Members of the House," stated Congressman Al Green, a Democrat representing Texas' Ninth Congressional District. "In light of this resolution and as a result of recent events, the Committee on House Administration has included an additional allowance for the 2021 Members' Representational Allowance (MRA) for security-related expenses for each congressional office. While it is disheartening that tragic events have led to a greater need for security, it brings me comfort to know that Members will have the additional funding to protect their staff and the surrounding public in case of emergency."
