Congressman John Joyce, M.D. released the following statement after voting in opposition to H.R. 8 and H.R. 1446.

"The American people have entrusted Congress to support and defend the U.S. Constitution in its entirety -- including the vital Second Amendment. Today I voted to reject House Democrats' challenges to the fundamental right to keep and bear arms. If enacted, H.R. 8 and H.R. 1446 would impose restrictive background checks and unduly burden law-abiding citizens while doing little to prevent mass shooting and illicit violence. Every day, I will continue to reject the Democrats' radical agenda and work to protect our intrinsic freedoms."

As a strong defender of the Second Amendment, Dr. Joyce has led legislation to protect and expand these fundamental freedoms. This week, he introduced an amendment to H.R. 8 that would cut through red tape and reduce firearm restrictions for law enforcement and service members. Unfortunately, the Democrats rejected the amendment.

Recently, Dr. Joyce was an original co-sponsor of H.R. 38, the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act, to expand Americans' gun rights by allowing concealed carry license holders to carry a firearm across state lines.
