U.S. Representative Greg Steube (R-Fla.) joined his colleagues in introducing the Save Democracy Act, legislation that is designed to work with the individual states to create baseline safeguards against voter fraud and election irregularities.

"Our first legislative priority is intended to reestablish faith in the integrity of our elections," Steube said. "If we don't work to ensure our citizens have confidence in our election process then this body is not addressing a major reason for division in our country. All Americans want their voices to matter -- this legislation is an opportunity for Congress to work with the states to ensure that every legal ballot is counted in a process that is fair, transparent and verifiable."

This legislation would address voter registration, ballot casting, and tabulation processes to close any loopholes and promote election integrity.

Specifically, for federal elections, it would:

Prohibit automatic voter registration;
Require voter citizenship verification to register;
Prohibit states from sending out unrequested absentee ballots;
Bar anyone other than the voter, a cohabitant, an election official, or the post office from submitting a ballot to a polling location;
Prohibit public ballot collection boxes;
Require absentee ballots to be received by the close of Election Day;
Require at least two representatives of each Presidential campaign in a general election be permitted to observe polls and vote counting operations;
Require mail-in or absentee ballots be counted and recorded immediately upon receipt, with no results disclosed until after the closure of polling places on the date of an election.
