Connolly-Norton Statement on Inspector General Report on DC VA Medical Center Mammography Program

Statement

Date: Feb. 26, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Gerry Connolly (D-VA), Chair of the House Subcommittee on Government Operations (D-VA), and Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), Chair of the House Subcommittee on Highways and Transit, released the following statement on the Department of Veterans Affairs Office of Inspector General report on the mammography program at the Washington DC VA Medical Center.

"This is a deeply troubling report. These are mothers, daughters, sisters and grandmothers. Failure to send even one mammogram result notification is one too many. The DC VA Medical Center snatched luck from the jaws of incompetence, and that cannot continue. The Inspector General has laid out constructive recommendations, and as members of Congress we will not relent in our oversight."

At the request of Connolly and Norton, the VA Office of Inspector General (OIG) conducted a healthcare inspection at the November 4, 2019.
