Congressman Panetta Appointed to Three Key House Committees for The Central Coast in 117 Th Congress

Press Release

Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley) announced that he was appointed by Congressional leadership to serve on three important House Committees in the 117th Congress: the House Committee on Ways and Means, the House Committee on Agriculture, and the House Committee on Armed Services. This will be Congressman Panetta's third consecutive term serving on the Agriculture Committee and his second serving on Ways and Means. He was asked to return to the Armed Services Committee having served on the committee during his first term in office.

"I am honored to represent and serve California's 20th Congressional District on the Agriculture Committee. I look forward to continuing my work to advocate for our local producers and farmworkers as they continue to bolster our way of life and number one industry on the Central Coast. Through my work on the Farm Bill, I've ensured that they have the federal funding and backing to continue to provide our nation and other countries with fresh fruits and vegetables from the Salad and Berry Bowls of the World. Now more than ever with the pandemic, I will work with my colleagues to ensure agricultural workers have the federal resources they need, such as testing, protective equipment, and vaccines, to stay safe. Our workforce and our producers have kept our food supply chain on track despite the challenges of this pandemic, and it is my honor and responsibility to ensure they can continue to do so safely."

"I am also very pleased to return as a member on the Ways and Means Committee. As the oldest committee in Congress and the only committee with its mission laid out in our Constitution, it is and honor and a great responsibility to serve on Ways and Means. Last Congress on the committee, I learned a great deal and came to appreciate the committee's wide-ranging authority and jurisdiction to expand opportunities for my constituents. This Congress, I'll be at the forefront of promoting smarter policies that benefit Central Coast priorities including fairer tax policies, the expansion of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit (CTC), and the promotion clean energy deployment and innovation. The committee also allows me to work on expanding markets and breaking down trade barriers for our agriculture products, and enforcing high trade standards for workers and our environment. I'm proud to serve on a committee that supports my work for an economic environment that fosters prosperity for the people of the Central Coast and our country."

"I am thankful to have the opportunity to return to the House Armed Services Committee this Congress as well. With numerous military installations located on the Central Coast that contribute over $1.4 billion to our economy and create 15,000 jobs for our neighbors, friends, and family members, it is my responsibility to ensure that those bases are properly maintained and funded, and that our servicemembers and their families that live in our communities are supported. Moreover, my time on this committee, will allow me to promote our installations' educational and leadership training and technological innovations for the safety and security of our country."
