Rep. Williams Defends Rights and Voices of All Americans

Press Release

Date: Dec. 2, 2020
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Roger Williams (R-TX-25) today urged the House Democrat Majority to retain a vital procedural protection, the Motion to Recommit (MTR), that ensures the rights of the Minority party in Congress are protected.

"While Speaker Nancy Pelosi enters her second decade atop the House Democratic Caucus, her continued assault on this legislative body has never been more concerning. As the Minority party, Republicans are afforded a protected opportunity to amend the Speaker's radical legislation with the Motion to Recommit, a longstanding rule that ensures millions of Americans are represented regardless of which party is in control. Without it, more than 210 Republicans elected to serve American taxpayers will be silenced and without recourse -- if the Speaker goes down this road, it's further evidence that her message of "unity" and working on behalf of all Americans is nothing more than a façade. I'll continue fighting for the voice of every Texan in the 25th District to be heard."
