Rep. Lamborn Responds to U.S. Space Command Headquarters Selection Process Scores

Statement

Congressman Lamborn issued the following statement after reviewing the scores from the Department of the Air Force's selection process regarding the permanent headquarters for U.S. Space Command:

"After reviewing the scores provided by the Department of the Air Force, it seems clear there are significant irregularities in how the metrics were graded. These scores do not accurately reflect the nature of the extensive resources and infrastructure in Colorado Springs. Colorado Springs has consistently been ranked in the top five places to in the country, as the best place to start or move a business, and as a favorite assignment for active-duty personnel from around the country. In 2020, Colorado was rated the best economy of any state in America. Furthermore, America's national security space ecosystem grew up in Colorado. The space warfighting center of excellence in Colorado Springs is the result of decades of patriotic service and government and community investment. I am very concerned that the process used by the Department of the Air Force was fundamentally flawed. It appears these results have been used to justify a purely political decision. This is why I have requested that the Government Accountability Office investigate the methodology and scoring of the Department of the Air Force's decision-making process. I look forward to a fair and transparent evaluation of this process, which I am confident will portray Colorado Springs, Colorado as the best permanent location for U.S. Space Command."
