Congressman Steven Horsford Releases Statement on Completion of House Budget Committee Markup of American Rescue Plan

Statement

Today, Congressman Steven Horsford and the House Budget Committee completed the markup of President Biden's American Rescue Plan. With the closing of the markup, Congressman Horsford released the following statement:

"President Biden's American Rescue Plan is the bold, transformative action that Nevada needs to crush the coronavirus and rebuild our economy. This plan will inject billions into Nevada's economy to strengthen small businesses, support essential workers, and fund distribution of the lifesaving COVID-19 vaccine," said Congressman Steven Horsford. "With so many families struggling from the devastation of this pandemic, the American Rescue Plan should not be controversial. The overwhelming majority of Americans support passage of this plan, and they are counting on Congress to put politics aside and deliver the relief they need."

During the markup, Congressman Horsford delivered a powerful rebuttal to a motion introduced by Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO-03) which would have struck all state and local funding in the American Rescue Plan. An excerpt from his remarks can be viewed here.

The American Rescue Plan includes key measures to help workers keep a roof over their heads and food on the table by:

Extending weekly $400 increased unemployment benefits through August 2021
Providing $25 billion for emergency rental assistance
Extending the 15 percent SNAP benefit increase through September 2021
Reducing health care premiums for working families, and
Expanding the Child Tax Credit to $3,000 per child.
The legislation also includes measures specifically needed by Nevada's Fourth Congressional district:

Grants for entertainment venues
Funding for health care and social services in Tribal communities
Support for programs that keep veterans healthy and safe during COVID-19
The American Rescue Plan also includes targeted assistance for small and medium-sized businesses, funding to help schools safely resume in-person instruction, support for a nationally coordinated vaccination program, more funding for free COVID-19 testing, expanded production of protective personal equipment and medical supplies, and a large-scale mobilization of public health workers. Each of these are a critical piece of crushing this pandemic once and for all.

Following the markup of the Budget Committee, the American Rescue Plan will proceed to the Rules Committee, and then to the floor of the House of Representatives for a final vote.
