Luján Votes to Confirm Jennifer Granholm as Energy Secretary

Statement

Date: Feb. 25, 2021
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Energy

U.S. Senator Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) issued the following statement after the Senate voted 64-35 to confirm former Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm as Secretary of Energy:

"The Department of Energy and our National Labs play a central role in addressing the world's most pressing challenges, including the climate crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic. New Mexicans need a Secretary of Energy who will accelerate a clean energy transition, champion our National Lab's research and development efforts, invest in New Mexico's workforce, support tech transfer to give our companies a competitive advantage, and create opportunities for the people of our state. When I met with Jennifer Granholm earlier this month, she made it clear she shares these goals. For this reason, I cast my vote to confirm Secretary Granholm and I look forward to working with her to serve the people of New Mexico."
