U.S. Representative Young Kim (CA-39) reaffirmed her commitment to protecting life in Congress by joining 199 of her colleagues in a letter to House and Senate leadership in support of protecting the Hyde Amendment and by joining 191 of her colleagues to introduce the Born Alive Survivors Protection Act.

"As the mother of four children, standing up for life is personal to me. That is why along with almost 200 of my colleagues, I am supporting commonsense legislation that will give protections to infants born alive after an abortion. Unfortunately, last Congress House Democrats blocked more than 80 attempts to pass similar legislation. Protecting the most vulnerable and prohibiting publicly funded abortions should be commonsense. I'm proud to join my Republican colleagues to support these two initiatives and I will continue to stand up for life," said Kim.

The Hyde Amendment prevents federal taxpayer dollars from being used to support abortion procedures and has been widely supported by both Democrats and Republicans for decades. Recently an increasing number of Congressional Democrats and President Joe Biden have called for the decades long bipartisan consensus to end.

The Born Alive Survivors Protection Act (H.R. 619), led by Rep. Ann Wagner (MO-02) ensures that infants born alive after an abortion receive the same protection of law and degree of care as any newborn.
