Scott Statement on the NDAA Vote

Statement

Today, U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) released the following statement on the National Defense Authorization Act vote:

"The U.S. military is our nation's first and last line of defense and the consequences of not funding our Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, Coast Guard, Airmen, and Guardians would jeopardize national security," said Senator Scott. "Simply put, our unpreparedness would allow adversaries--both foreign and domestic--to take advantage of our compromised situation. And while I vote to fund America's military today, I also will vote with President Trump to rein in Big Tech when Section 230 reform is on the Senate floor."

The FY21 NDAA authorizes $740.5 billion to support our servicemembers. The funding includes a three percent pay raise for all members of the armed forces for the second year in a row, includes oversight measures to ensure previous reforms to military housing are implemented as intended, continues investments in 5G technology, and prioritizes support for family readiness, spouse employment, and child care.

Below is a list of provisions championed by Senator Scott:

An increase of $27 million over the President's budget for the Department of Defense's HBCU Research, Development, Testing, and Evaluation program for a total of $57 million
$9.1 billion to procure 95 joint strike fighter aircraft, a number of which will be based in South Carolina
South Carolina specific provisions are listed below:

$15 million for Joint Base Charleston
$7 million for Fort Jackson
$1.53 billion for the Savannah River Site (SRS)
$25 million for Advanced Manufacturing Collaborative Facility (AMC)
