Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15), a member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs made the following statement:

"As the Trump administration draws down our service members in Afghanistan, I want to urge caution. We must be methodical and analyze the impact of bringing our troops home. It's vital that the United States maintain its commitments to our international allies and partners and consider the national security ramifications of this process.

Continued negotiations between the Afghan government and the Taliban are necessary to determine a path toward peace. It is my hope that each party will return to the negotiating table and cease violence for the mutual benefit of the Afghan people."
